HiQ projects:

HiQ Wallacia

Wallacia quarry expansion and landfill project.

HiQ’s Wallacia quarry has provided leading construction materials for over 30 years to support projects across New South Wales (NSW).

HiQ is now seeking approval to extend its quarry operations at Wallacia and repurpose part of the existing quarry as a non-putrescible landfill facility.

Why is the project needed?

HiQ Wallacia will help address two growing infrastructure needs for NSW: waste management and construction materials. As growth in Western Sydney accelerates, Greater Sydney’s waste levels are rising. In 2022-2023 NSW generated 22.4 million tonnes of waste, this is set to increase to 37 million tonnes by 2041. At the same time, the NSW’s landfill space is set to run out by 2030.

While avoidance, reuse, recycling and recovery remain the priorities, there will always be some material left over that needs safe disposal. And, as Greater Sydney continues its rapid industrial and population growth, major projects also urgently need construction materials.

HiQ’s Wallacia project will provide much needed landfill solutions while continuing to supply construction materials essential for housing and infrastructure growth.

Why Wallacia and what are the next steps?

HiQ Wallacia has operated safely for more than 30 years. By repurposing part of its quarry, HiQ will make use of the established industrial land to help NSW address future waste and construction needs. HiQ’s proposed Wallacia project builds on a long track record of safe and responsible operations to ensure the surrounding community and environment is protected.

We are in the early stages of a State Significant Development (SSD) application with the NSW Government. As part of this, we are required to undertake a range of detailed technical assessments into key areas of the proposed facility. These assessments will form part of the Environmental Impact Statement, which will be made publicly available before a decision is made. We are committed to keeping the community informed and providing opportunities for feedback throughout the planning and assessment process.
